Herman van Wietmarschen

Dr Herman van Wietmarschen was born in 1974 in Oss, the Netherlands. He studied Medical Biology at the University of Utrecht. He worked for 8 years as a research journalist writing extensively about medical technology, bioethics, science & society issues. In 1999 he started practicing Taoist Tai Chi and became a volunteer Tai Chi teacher in 2003. The continued teaching of Taoist Tai Chi for over 10 years established a practical experience with a Chinese health promotion discipline.

In 2006 he started working for the Osteo- and Rheumatoid Arthritis Foundation as research manager for two years after which he focused on obtaining a PhD in systems biology. In 2012 he received his PhD on a systems biology oriented investigation of Chinese diagnosis, at Leiden University. Afterwards he continued his work on systems thinking and integrative health at TNO in Zeist for over 4 years. During these years he was a staff member of the Sino-Dutch centre for Preventive and Personalized Medicine and joined the advisory board of the Journal of Integral Medicine.

Since 2016 he is working at Louis Bolk Institute as integrative health researcher. His interests are the implementation of integrative health practices and systems thinking. He recently joined the editorial board of the European Journal of Integrative Medicine and the board of the Academy of Integrative Medicine in the Netherlands. Dr van Wietmarschen published more than 40 papers, articles and book chapters.
